Talking with one of the young sister’s in Christ today; brought back an old saying my Grandmother quoted when I was a child, “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. I believe this had something to do with her trying to keep me busy with my chores or schoolwork. As a child I didn’t understand the proverb and didn’t press the issue; I just got on with the task at hand.
Today, I thought to research the saying and apply it to life happening now. Idleness can make one dull of productivity or it can cause you to rest from your anxieties. To much activity can cause an abundance of stress. If you do as Martha of the bible in (Luke 10:38-42) it will cause a breach in your spiritual walk and you will only see the worldly side of life, losing the God focus/forward character of Christ moving in your life. If, you take time to pray, praise, study the word of God you advance in the task of life that is sat before you and you decrease you stress levels greatly, as Mary did. I prefer to be a Mary but sometimes life dictates we as woman running households have to have a little of both, but, don’t neglect the latter. Jesus told Martha when she complain to him about her sister (Mary), not helping with preparing the meal for him and his disciples; Martha, you are to concern about the natural but, your sister has chosen the better; that is, to sit and learn the GOOD NEWS. He didn’t say not to care for the home but make sure your main focus is HIM.
The Lord will give you wisdom and resources to conquer and establish all things that pertain to life and godliness through his knowledge by the Holy Spirit,( 2 Peter 1:3-4).
So in closing, the idle/still mind can work for you if, it’s the mind that is waiting on the Lord for instruction and direction. It will only lead to destruction (the devil’s workshop), if your focus is totally on the world and its plan and purpose for your household. Make your calling and gifting sure(2Peter 1:10) and may prosperity always be with you. Blessings !!.
